HELLO! Nice of you to visit . . .

Did you know that there are organizations who supplement their staff with volunteers, offering free room and board? All you need do is get there! Second Career Volunteer details how pre/post retirees, Boomers, unemployed college graduates, and those displaced by the current financial upheaval can get-out-and-give back within their budget while sharing their skills. Whether one week, one month or one year, single or a couple, this lifestyle allows travel, camaraderie, and adventure, irrespective of finances. Come join me!

November, 2015

Another year has flown …… 🌿🌻🍁❄️

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving!

(Almost) time too review and enjoy 2015 with pleasant memories.
I must admit that traveling back from Menaul School seemed longer this time, but the joy of seeing Spring colors emerge from the hills and valleys was pleasurable. Menaul is an inviting environment – delightful to volunteer and the whole Southwest to investigate! If you are thinking of traveling in that area, stop and investigate their volunteer opportunities.

Once back in the Northeast, another pleasure was to reacquaint with family and friends. Nothing is more pleasurable than the hugs and smiles of my granddaughters! Planted flowers in my deck railing containers, even grew tomatoes and peppers, visited a dear friend in Peabody, MA, and another friend from Portland, OR visited me! Time to simply enjoy.
Traveled to Acadia National Park, ME to visit fellow volunteers. Hope to join them in September, 2016, to volunteer at the camp offered to school children. The facility is a converted Navy communications center, renovated to accommodate computers, dining hall, dormitories – all necessary for overnight campers while they enjoy investigating the Maine coast. All of the U.S. is worth investigating – I’m just partial to Fall in N.E.

Fall in Vermont

Parkinson’s update: As I have mentioned, this year my focus was adjusting to disease management. But, as a friend said, “…when you get to our age, everyone has something.” Am grateful to be participating in a clinical study which will (hopefully) help many. If interested in helping with Parkinson’s research Google: Brain Initiative
Looking forward: Found a new volunteer site – Black Mountain, NC. will stop by on my way South in January. More on this in 2016. Excited!
Enjoy forthcoming pleasures in 2016… Barbara 🎉🎉
