Patio tomatoes, yummy...

Patio tomatoes, yummy…

It has been a lovely summer in upstate New York. Evidence? The three “Patio tomatoes” plucked from my container garden in the corner of my deck. They are delicious – slight shake of salt and bite into a warm reminder of summer’s past when we would take the box of Morton Salt out into my grandmother’s garden. She kept a garden until she was 98! Good Polish stock. Try patio tomatoes in your garden!
For one week in June, I traveled to The Rowe Center, Rowe, MA. The Rowe Center is a serene, (see Baby Bear pic), thoughtful place where visitors/attendees may take workshops, hike mountains, or stroll into deep green forests; also, meditate, float around in a canoe or kayak, or take a swim in the nearby lake. If you wish to volunteer, like I did, email the Volunteer Coordinator who will talk you through

the opportunity to “test the waters” by experiencing the spirituality, by sitting on the Farmhouse porch reading, or simply watching clouds take shape in the azure sky. Ask about the summer camp, noisy but fantastic for adolescents. Attend Fall/Winter/Spring workshops priced on a sliding scale. There is private and/or dormitory-style housing and all food served is local. Speak to other volunteers; they are happy to share their experiences.
Parkinson’s update: Stress continues to be a Parkinson’s patient enemy, along with general weakness and loss of energy. Exercise is one of the answers. Motion is lotion. I do attend a Pedaling for Parkinson’s class at my local YMCA. Check if you have one in your area.

Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life—and travel—leaves marks on you.
